Coaching / Teaching / Training

For those of you who want to learn to update your websites yourself, a service I provide is education. I can coach you on questions specific to your website environment. If you want a broader understanding, I can give you general training in website technologies such as HTML and CSS, or help you learn a web authoring tool like Expression Web. For people in the local area (greater Sacramento area of California), I teach more formal courses through Sierra College Community Education. Read more about each type of consulting below and contact me if you want to discuss your particular requirements.

Coaching

As you are working on your website, a specific question comes up and you can't easily find the answer. Do you wish you had someone to ask? I can be that someone. None of us can know all of the ins and outs of managing a website — not even me! If you are trying to accomplish something, but you can't figure out how to do it, I can help.

With coaching, you can get personalized help. I'll need to understand the environment you are working in, the tools you use, and how much you already know. Once we have a relationship established, I will respond to your email or phone questions pretty quickly ... usually within a day or two.

Teaching

I teach formal not-for-credit classes through Sierra College Community Education in Roseville, California. Short courses (only 3-6 hours in length), inexpensive, and covering fundamental concepts, these classes offer your the opportunity to explore an area of interest.

The courses I teach are:

Registration and scheduling for these classes is handled through Sierra College Community Education. (Upcoming classes are listed on my home page.) Classes are held in the spring, summer, and fall of each year, though not all classes are offered in each session. You can register online with your credit card.

Training

You can get a great deal of general knowledge about designing and managing a website from several great resources on the Web. There are a number of books and tutorials available tailored to different learning styles and technical levels. However, sometimes you just want to ask some questions or get some overview information from a teacher. That's where I come in.

I will strive to understand your current knowledge level, and explain as much or as little as you want. I can identify areas that need clarification or may be confusing. You can focus your learning and get a good return for your investment.

Learning Resources

I've compiled a short list of online resources for my students and clients. The list can be used as a starting point for more in-depth learning as well as a reference for access to the tools and some of the techniques I find useful in managing websites.
